Hina Face

About

Hina Face is the name given by fans to a face made by the character Hina Kagiyama from the Touhou Project games. The face, which is meant to portray a look of villainy, is often seen as silly by fans of the series, and is commonly worked into photo manipulations.

Origin

Hina Kagiyama first appreared in the 10th main series Touhou game Mountain of Faith. She is both the midboss and the main boss for the second stage of the game.^[1] Before the player fighters her as the main boss, the player has a conversation with her. During this conversation, one of her possible facial expressions is one expressing a villainous intent (seen below). Due to the limited artistic capabilities of the game's creator, ZUN, however, the face is often seen by fans as something sillier instead.

Spread

A 2010 video which featured the face was viewed over 80,000 times on Nico Nico Douga.^[2] A Tumblr dedicated to edits of the face was created in 2013 and ran for several months.^[3]
