Hideo Kojima Reposting Hunter Schafer, also known as Hideo Kojima Liking Hunter Schafer, refers to a series of memes and jokes about notable game developer Hideo Kojima reposting and retweeting photos and videos of actress Hunter Schafer (known for Euphoria) due to Kojima's apparent adoration for her. The jokes started in late 2023 when it was announced that Schafer was starring in Kojima's upcoming game Overdose (OD). Thereafter, Kojima seemed to repost anything related to Schafer on Twitter / X resulting in the axiom about his adoration.

Origin

On December 7th, 2023, Hideo Kojima posted the first trailer for his then-upcoming game OD to X^[1] in which actresses Hunter Schafer and Sophia Ellis were seen. The trailer inspired the White Woman Scream GIF featuring Ellis. On December 8th, Kojima posted some photos on X^[2] including one with him and Schafer (shown below, left), gaining over 24,000 likes in two months.

On December 10th, 2023, Kojima posted two photos of himself "With Hunter Schafer," to X,^[3] receiving over 72,000 likes in two months (shown below, right).

On December 12th, 2023, X^[4] user @soonrightaway posted a screenshot of Kojima's then-recent likes on X, showing that he liked a photo of Schafer. @soonrightaway wrote, "lmao," gaining over 21,000 likes in two months (shown below).

Multiple memes, jokes and posts about Kojima liking and reposting Hunter Schafer surfaced online after X^[4] user @soonrightaway's post. For instance, the trend notably resurfaced on January 27th, 2024, when X^[5] user @Meaningbird shared a screenshot of Kojima reposting a photo of Schafer, gaining over 42,000 likes in 13 days (shown below, left).

Later on January 27th, 2024, X^[6] user @justincbzz replied to @Meaningbird with a meme using the Absolute Cinema template, gaining over 1,900 likes in 13 days (shown below, right).

A repost of X^[5] user @Meaningbird's screenshot went viral on Instagram^[7] in late January 2024, posted by user @professorgutsv2, gaining over 7,400 likes in 13 days.

On February 4th, 2024, the X^[8] account @TheCinesthetic posted another Hunter Schafer selfie that inspired viral quotes that imagined Kojima's response. For instance, X^[9] user @airbagged posted a quote on February 6th, reading, "hideo kojima right now," receiving over 33,000 likes in three days (shown below, left).

X^[10] user @legotrillermoth posted a similar quote minutes later on February 6th, 2024, using a GIF of Kazuma Kiryu from Yakuza elaborately pressing buttons on his phone, gaining over 21,000 likes in three days (shown below, right).

More viral tweets^[11] about Kojima and Schafer surfaced soon after in February 2024.
