Hey (With The Intention Of…) is a phrasal template that grew popular on Twitter in July 2022. The template typically pokes fun at the poster's ulterior motives when opening a conversation.
Origin
On July 2nd, 2022, Twitter user @shawtygf222[1] tweeted, "heyyy (with intentions of marriage)," gaining over 36,000 retweets and 237,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
Over the following days, other Twitter users began using the template, often with similarly flirtatious punchlines as the original. On July 4th, 2022, Twitter user @missanniemburu[2] tweeted, "Heyyyy ( with intentions of being yours )," gaining over 310 retweets and 1,400 likes in 10 days (shown below, left). On July 7th, Twitter user @vi0lentdelightz[3] tweeted, "hey (with the intention of being loved obsessively)," receiving over 50 likes in six days (shown below, right).
Punchlines began growing more creative over the following week. On July 12th, Twitter user @faramirsangel[4] tweeted, "hey [with intention of forcing you to watch lord of the rings]," gaining over 5,500 retweets and 33,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). The same day, Twitter user @kysadilla[5] tweeted, "Hey (with the intention of asking if you’re going to eat your pickle)," gaining over 4,800 retweets and 25,000 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).
