Hey Baby, You Still By Your Girl?, also Yo What's Good Shawty, Your Man Still Around? and Hey Baby, Can I Go Out and Head Over?, refer to a prank trend popularized on TikTok that involves a person playing the fake audio of a phone call from a lover in front of their significant other. First gaining popularity in 2020, the trend resurged several times in the early 2020s.

Origin

"Yo What's Good Shawty, Your Man Still Around"

On March 12th, 2020, TikToker[1] @deco2ta uploaded a clip of himself saying, "Yo, what's good shawty, your man still around?", offering to use the sound clip to prank their boyfriends. The clip (shown below) garnered over 805,000 likes in four years.

In the following days, the soundbite went viral on TikTok as users uploaded videos of themselves pranking or pretending to prank, their boyfriends with it.

For example, on March 14th, 2020, TikTok[2] user @rug posted a video that received over 1.3 million likes in four years (shown below, left). On March 17th, TikTok[3] user @misshollyallen posted another prank video that garnered over 1.1 million views in the same timeframe (shown below, right).

"Hey Baby, Can I Go Out and Head Over"

On March 17th, 2020, TikTok[4] user @theandefloyd recorded a similar prank audio meant to be used on one's girlfriend. The video (shown below) garnered over 277,000 likes in four years.

Similar to @deco2ta's version, the sound clip went viral on TikTok, with users uploading videos of themselves playing the audio next to their girlfriends. For example, on March 19th, 2020, TikTok[5] user @sdrcamcarter posted such a video that garnered over 707,000 likes in four years (shown below, left). On March 18th, TikTok[6] user @coondog5353 posted a video that received over 1.5 million likes in the same period (shown below, right).

"Hey Baby, You Still By Your Girl?"

Prior to July 14th, 2021, viral content channel @daquan uploaded a similar prank audio of a woman saying, "Hey, baby, you still by your girl?" (original upload could not be discovered). Similar to the previous versions, the audio saw extensive use in prank videos, both real and staged, in 2021 and 2022: for example, on July 14th, 2021, TikTok[7] user @tajandb posted a video that received over 453,000 likes in three years (shown below, left). On March 9th, 2022, TikTok[8] user @gregntati uploaded a clip that garnered over 577,000 likes in two years (shown below, right).

On June 8th, 2024, TikTok[9] account @funnyfuls posted a compilation of men using the prank audio on their seemingly sleeping significant others. The upload (shown below) garnered over 2.3 million views and 151,400 likes in three days, sparking a resurgence of the trend on TikTok
