Hey… Are You A New Student Here Too? refers to a screenshot from the 2014 Adam Sandler Dating Sim parody game showing a smiling Adam Sandler saying the line as if asking the player if they're a new student. The image became notably popularized over the course of the late 2010s, inspiring numerous photoshops replacing Adam Sandler with another out-of-place character saying the same line.

Origin

Around July 2014, the parody dating sim Adam Sandler Dating Sim was released as a free download on Mediafire.^[1] The game became notably prominent on YouTube in Let's Plays that year and was played by YouTubers including Cinnamon Toast Ken and PewDiePie (shown below, left and right) that December.

A screenshot from the game showing a smiling Adam Sandler saying "Hey… are you a new student here too?" started to become popular online following the game's virality. On March 23rd, 2015, Imgur^[2] user rpmcmcmurphy posted a screenshot of the scene, gaining over 3,900 views in six years (shown below). This is the earliest available upload of the image.

Spread

The image spread across social media over the following years, often on its own without context. In 2015, a similar parody dating sim game based on the musical act Death Grips titled Death Grips Dating Sim which features the same line of dialogue attributed to group member MC Ride. A screenshot of the scene was posted to Twitter^[3] on December 31st, 2015 (shown below).

On April 4th, 2018, Redditor C0llin123 posted a version of the meme featuring Kramer from Seinfeld in an anime school hallway saying the line to /r/me_irl,^[4] gaining over 200 upvotes in three years (shown below, left). On August 13th, 2020, Instagram^[6] page jawsome.bro posted the original screenshot, gaining over 52,000 likes in a year. The image has also been used in image macros. On October 26th, 2021, Instagram^[5] meme page boomer.jim posted a shitpost webcomic using the image, gaining over 44,900 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).

On November 23rd, boomer.jim posted another version of the meme to Instagram^[7] with John Kennedy in the place of Adam Sandler, gaining over 270,000 likes in two weeks (shown below).
