About

Here in Parkour Civilization, No One Chooses to Jump for the Beef refers to the opening dialogue from the first episode of the Minecraft YouTube series Parkour Civilization. Following the popularity of the series in late September 2024, the dialogue went viral on social media as a catchphrase, copypasta, spam comment and meme reference.

Origin

On October 5th, 2023, YouTube[1] user Evbo uploaded the first episode of their series Parkour Civilization titled "Minecraft but I join PARKOUR CIVILIZATION." The series is set in a bizarre world of Parkour Civilization, where parkour permeates every area of life, including trade, acquiring food and defining one's social standing.

The first episode opens with a scene of the protagonist Evbo, a so-called "parkour noob," being faced with a daily choice to do a relatively easy one-block jump for a piece of raw chicken or attempt a harder two-block jump for a piece of raw beef. The protagonist comments that in Parkour Civilization no one chooses to jump for the beef as it is risky. The episode (shown below) garnered over 5.7 million views in one year.

You're late. You know the deal. You can do the one block jump for the raw chicken, or you can attempt the one block vertical jump for the beef.
Here in Parkour Civilization no one chooses to jump for the beef. It's better to be safe and do the one block jump for the chicken rather than risk your entire life for just a half a hunger bar more.
Tomorrow you better not be late or you'll be doing two-block jumps as punishment.

The same scene opens the two-hour compilation movie, which was uploaded by Evbo on December 18th, 2023, and received over 25 million views on YouTube[2] in 10 months.

In the Parkour Civilization world, failing to make the jump and falling down results in the person having to serve a 50-year sentence in Parkour Prison.

Spread

On September 26th, 2024, X[3] user @clown_depot reposted the opening clip from an earlier TikTok repost. The upload received over 17 million views, 9,800 reposts and 93,000 likes on X / Twitter in 10 days.

Following the upload the series went viral, with the opening dialogue achieving particular popularity in memes and as a spam comment. For example, on September 28th, 2024, X[4] user @Borcheim posted a Guilty Gear Strive fan art based on the dialogue that received over 2,800 reposts and 16,000 likes in one week (shown below).

On October 2nd, 2024, X[5] user @JCog_ posted a Paper Mario meme that received over 3,000 reposts and 24,000 likes in two days (shown below).

The dialogue remained a popular subject of memes and references and has been used as a copypasta in early October 2024.
