Here Comes the Hurricane refers to the song "HERE COMES THE hURRICANE LEGENDARY KATRINA" by Kevin JZ Prodigy. A snippet of the song went viral on TikTok, and has been used to soundtrack various dances as well as TikToks about literal hurricanes.
Origin
On February 18th, 2022, Kevin JZ Prodigy released "HERE COMES THE hURRICANE LEGENDARY KATRINA." The one-minute song gained over 120,000 views on YouTube in eighteen months (shown below).
The song was also uploaded to TikTok, but it didn't go viral there immediately. On November 16th, 2022, TikToker[1] tateboiluke posted a TikTok of himself voguing to the song, gaining over 3.7 million likes in nearly a year (shown below). The video has been credited for popularizing the sound on the app.[2]
Spread
Over the following several months, the snippet was used in various dance videos on the app. For example, on December 17th, 2022, TikToker rubenxwhite posted a video of the Grinch voguing to the track, gaining over 3.2 million likes (shown below, left). On March 2nd, 2023, TikToker gyubinmeal posted a video of the contestant Woongki from Boys Planet dancing to the track, gaining over 1.4 million likes (shown below, right).
The sound was later used more literally for actual hurricanes during the summer of 2023. On August 19th, 2023, TikToker Socalflaco posted a video of Hurricane Hilary set to the track, gaining over 338,000 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). On the 17th, user babydaddyeddie posted a joke about the hurricane set to the song, gaining over 261,000 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).
