Hello This Is X Mother, I Opened Up This App Due to the Notifications is a copypasta and phrasal template popularized on X / Twitter written as if made by the user's mother, announcing that the user's phone has been confiscated because of the disgusting things they've been posting on the app. The copypasta was first popularized in February 2023 with well-known creators including Dream sharing it. It experienced a resurgence online in August 2024.

Origin

On February 16th, 2023, X^[1] user @PBarry04 posted the earliest known version of the "Hello this is X mom" copypasta using "Peter's mom," garnering around two likes in a year (shown below).

Hello this is Peter’s mom. I opened up this app due to the notifications and wouId Iike to let you aII know his phone has been confiscated for the time being and we will be having a conversation about this account. The things that he has been saying on this app are disgusting.

Spread

The copypasta gained viral spread throughout early 2023 following @PBarry04's initial tweet. On February 17th and 18th, 2023, two separate posts were made to the subreddit /r/copypasta^[2]^[3] sharing the text. On February 20th, Minecraft streamer Dream then posted the copypasta to X,^[4] garnering over 209,000 likes and 8,700 reposts in a year (shown below).

On February 21st, a screenshot of Dream's X post along with a comment by Twitch streamer JustaMinx was posted by iFunny^[5] user BirdOfFrost garnering over 11,000 smiles in a year.

The copypasta experienced a resurgence in popularity in 2024. On June 15th, 2024, X^[6] user @kaichokes posted the copypasta, garnering over 280,000 likes in two months.

On August 25th, 2024, X^[7] user @buffys posted the copypasta to over 25,000 likes in a day. On the same day, X^[8] user @Bobisminion posted a version of the copypasta referencing Despicable Me, garnering over 11,000 likes in a day (shown below).
