About

Heidi Klum's Worm Costume refers to multiple image macros, viral videos and other discussions of actress Heidi Klum's 2022 Halloween costume that was a giant worm suit. The creepy, hyper-realistic costume was photographed on the red carpet of Klum's Hallowe'en Party in October 2022 and soon landed on Twitter where it was paired with various captions in subsequent memes. Additionally, the costume caused a resurgence in references to the Would You Still Love Me If I Was A Worm? meme.

Origin

Precursor

Actress Heidi Klum has been known for her elaborate Halloween costumes since the year 2000 when she hosted her very first "Hallowe'en Party" (named after Agatha Christie's 1969 novel) and dressed as a zombie doll (shown below, left).[1] Over the course of 22 years, Klum hosted an annual Halloween party every year,[1] which racked up more celebrity guests as it became famous. Klum's costumes became increasingly outlandish over the years. For instance, in 2011, Klum dressed as a dead body (shown below, center). In 2016, she gathered doppelgangers and acted like she had been cloned (shown below, right).

2022 Hallowe'en Party / Worm Costume

On October 31st, 2022, Klum's 22nd annual Hallowe'en Party was held. In attendance were multiple celebrities such as Julia Fox and Elon Musk. Meanwhile, Klum showed up dressed as a human-sized worm with her husband, Tom Kaulitz, who was dressed like a wounded fisherman (shown below, left). Multiple photographs were taken on the night of the event by Getty Images.[2] Early in the morning of November 1st, the Twitter[3] account of ExtraTV was one of the first to tweet the photos, gaining roughly 7,300 likes in less than a day (shown below, right).

On October 31st, 2022, the Twitter account of USA Today tweeted a video of an interview with Klum on the carpet dressed in her worm costume, gaining roughly 1.2 million views and 4,000 likes in less than a day (shown below).

Klum also posted her own videos of the costume to Instagram[8][9] on October 31st prior to the event. Both videos received upwards of 100,000 likes in less than a day (shown below).

Spread

For the rest of the day on November 1st, 2022, multiple Twitter users were exposed to Klum's costume and posted about it en masse, using multiple images that surfaced from Getty. For instance, on November 1st, Twitter[4] user chriscruzzzx tweeted four images, captioning them, "Heidi klum is so fucking unserious she might be crazy but she’s free," gaining over 2,300 likes in less than a day (shown below, left). On November 1st, Twitter[5] user DollPartz84 referenced Klum's fulfillment of the Would You Still Love Me If I Was A Worm? question, gaining roughly 2,100 likes in less than a day (shown below, right).

Memes using images of Klum's worm costume spread to other platforms as well. For instance, on November 1st, Instagram[6] user taylorlorenz3.0 posted a tweet screenshot and USA Today's interview in a carousel post that received roughly 2,700 likes in less than a day. Also on November 1st, Instagram[7] user joan.of.arca posted a meme that referenced the You Must Be X If You Think We Fuckin' snowclone, gaining roughly 6,700 likes in less than a day (shown below).

Would You Still Love Me If I Was A Worm?

Would You Still Love Me If I Was A Worm? is a cliché question girlfriends ask their boyfriends to gauge how much they really love them outside of their physicality. The question became memeworthy due to its nonsensical nature, as well as its remixability as a phrasal template. It originates from a viral tweet in 2019 and spread to Facebook and TikTok. On Halloween day in 2022, Heidi Klum's worm costume from her annual Hallowe'en Party caused a resurgence in the meme as people online referenced it alongside the pop culture discussion.
