About

He Was Running From A Cop Car, continued Jumpin' Over That Thang Gon' Leave A Big Scar, refers to a viral video posted to TikTok in 2021 in which a man (TikToker @iamjoseribalta) is singing a parody of Mooski's "Track Star" about a guy getting arrested. The song became a notable sound effect used in hood irony videos in early 2023, specifically in silhouette irony videos and hood irony dramatizations (also known as "Bro you should X / X:"). A main proponent of the sound's hood irony usage was a TikToker known as @illegalbugtrader.

Origin

On February 20th, 2021, TikToker[1] @iamjoseribalta uploaded a video in which he was filming a police scene in the distance and singing a parody of Mooski's song "Track Star,"[2] known for the lyrics, "She's a runner. She's a track star." TikToker @iamjoseribalta was instead singing, "He was running from a cop car," among other similar-sounding lyrics about the situation. Over the course of two years, the video gained roughly 2.1 million plays and 461,500 likes (shown below).

He was running from a cop car,
Jumpin' over that thang gon' leave a big scar.
Feel like GTA with like three stars.
Tryna get away when he ain't get far.
Woo woo woo woo-oo-oo Ooo-oo!

Soon after the video's upload, others on the app started using the TikTok[3] sound from @iamjoseribalta's video for videos that were cop-related, mostly showing others running away from the police. For instance, on February 22nd, 2021, TikToker[4] @ods_dirtymikefromda4 uploaded a video that used the sound, gaining roughly 7.3 million plays and 941,900 likes in two years (shown below, left). Also on February 22nd, 2021, TikToker[5] @hoodboyzah uploaded a video, gaining roughly 4.1 million plays and 910,900 likes in two years (shown below, right).

Usage In Hood Irony Videos

On March 17th, 2023, TikToker[6] @illegalbugtrader posted a video that used a slowed version of "He Was Running From A Cop Car," among other hood irony-adjacent sound effects like GTA ringtones, to show a silhouette running, among other hood irony visuals. The video gained roughly 2.8 million plays and 436,400 likes in two months (shown below, left). On April 16th, 2023, TikToker[7] @illegalbugtrader posted another video that used the same sound, gaining roughly 834,900 plays and 155,000 likes in one month (shown below, right).

Going into May 2023, the usage of both @illegalbugtrader's TikTok[8][9] sounds became commonplace on the app for creators who added to the growing Greenscreen Silhouette Hood Irony trend. For instance, @illegalbugtrader's second TikTok[9] sound amassed roughly 9,100 videos in one month, many of which were hood irony dramatizations.
