On June 24th, 2023, X^[1] user @cowboyENJOY posted a picture of a coffee shop display featuring a bumblebee cake pop looking at a chocolate chip cookie, captioned "he wants that cookie so effing bad." The post amassed more than 173,000 likes and 18,000 reposts in a year (seen below).

Spread

About a year after the "he wants that cookie so effing bad" tweet was posted, netizens started to repost the meme showing shipping and other romantic duos in which one person is already in love with the other. For instance, on July 15th, 2024, TikTok^[2] user @.xskylar._ posted a carousel featuring the viral tweet and an image showing the IvanTill ship from the animated web series Alien Stage. The post (seen below, left) amassed more than 69,000 plays and 1,000 likes in a month.

On July 14th, TikTok^[3] user @omnomz3 recreated the bumblebee cake pop to prove the viral image could be interpreted as a bee (seen below, right), amassing over 288,000 plays and 6,200 likes in a month.
