Haudi is a portmanteau of the greeting "Howdy" and the German auto manufacturer Audi. The word is frequently paired with a photograph of an Audi car with a cowboy hat photoshopped on to the roof of the car.
Origin
The earliest known usage of the word "Haudi" was posted by Twitter [1] @JoelDouthit tweeted, "Haudi from Audi! It's Saturday morning and what do we have? No a/c! #justhowilikeit" (shown below).
Spread
Several years later, on August 23rd, 2014, Twitter[2] user @Escalante_go tweeted a photograph an Audi with the license plate "Haudi" (shown below, left)
On November 29th, 2018, Redditor [7] svgcbbg posted the earliest known example of the Haui image that featured the car wearing the hat. The following day, Redditor[3] Tayttajakunnus posted the image in the /r/me_irl subreddit, receiving more than 9,600 points (98% upvoted) in less than one year (shown below, center).
On December 15th, Redditor[4] Bigmaczack69 posted the image in the /r/funny subreddit, where it received more than 4,400 points (92% upvoted) in six months.
On March 25th, 2019, Redditor[5] Lenastam posted the image with the caption "Therapist: cowboy audi does not exist, it can't hurt you". The post received more than 275 points (96% upvoted) (shown below, right).
On May 13th, 2019, Redditor[6] Silvain69 posted an I Miss The Internet with the image. The post received more than 47,000 points (93% upvoted) and 185 comments in one week (shown below).
