Has Never Kissed Anyone Before and Expecting Tongue, also known as Hasn't Kissed Anyone Ever and Expecting a Kiss With Tongue, refer to a series of ship dynamic redraw memes depicting two characters about to kiss, one labeled, "hasn't kissed anyone ever" and the other labeled, "expecting tongue." The original meme was posted by X / Twitter artist @EggyDaxy in November 2023 and became the subject of redraws over the following months on sites including X, Reddit, Tumblr and Instagram.

Origin

The "expecting tongue" meme was created by X artist @EggyDaxy on or just prior to November 19th, 2023, although the original post has been deleted. On November 21st, 2023, X^[1] user @BixelsWixels made a post asking for the "expecting tongue" meme, writing, "Who has that art meme of 'never kissed before vs. expecting it with tongue.'" That day, X^[2] artist @EggyDaxy reposted the meme, writing, "I MADE THAT hi…," garnering over 14,000 likes in 10 months.

Because the original post was deleted, the true earliest known version of the meme is a redraw posted under the original, deleted post. The redraw was posted by X^[3] artist @artionfrievo on November 19th, 2023, garnering over 500 likes in the same span of time.

The format became increasingly popularized over the following months, leading into 2024. On November 20th, 2023, X^[4] user @nenemyun posted a redraw of the meme replacing the characters with Sonic and Shadow, garnering over 1,900 likes in 10 months.

On January 13th, 2024, Instagram^[5] user keibleh posted a redraw of the meme referencing Genshin Impact, garnering over 11,000 likes in eight months. On February 11th, Tumblr^[6] user yamujiburo posted a variation on the meme featuring Pokemon characters Jessie and Delia Ketchum, noting the "expecting tongue" meme as the inspiration, garnering over 18,000 notes in eight months.

On April 1st, X^[7] user @Curryuku posted a version of the meme based on characters from Not So Shoujo Love Story, garnering over 17,000 likes in five months. On April 14th, X^[8] user @NogamiRyyotaro posted a version featuring the character Hina from Blue Archive, garnering over 25,000 likes in five months.

On April 18th, 2024, a version of the meme was posted to /r/HonkaiStarRail^[9] that garnered over 10,000 upvotes in five months. On August 30th, X^[10] user @FortunaDragon posted a version of the meme featuring characters from Zenless Zone Zero, which was reposted to the subreddit /r/ZZZ_Official^[11] on August 31st, garnering over 34,000 likes on the former and 11,000 upvotes on the latter in three weeks.
