Hank Hill Evil Laugh or That's a Clean Burning Hell, I Tell You What refers to an image and video clip of King of the Hill character Hank Hill laughing evilly while surrounded by hellfire from a 2002 episode of the show. The image has been used as a reaction image and in various image macros as early as 2015, seeing an increase in use on Reddit in 2021.

Origin

On March 17th, 2002, Season 6 Episode 12 of King of the Hill[1] aired on television. In the episode, Peggy pretends to be a nun to get a substitute teaching job at a Catholic school. In one scene she has a nightmare about the children going to hell because of this, where she sees her husband Hank. He says, "That's a clean burning hell, I tell you what," then laughs evilly with fire reflecting in the lenses of his glasses (shown below).



On October 20th, 2015, a GIF version of the clip was uploaded to Tenor[2] (shown below).

Over the following years the image saw increased use in memes. One of the earliest examples was posted on March 5th, 2016 to Meme Center[3] (shown below).



The image started to become popular on meme subreddits around mid-2021. On July 15th, 2021, Redditor u/i_dont_eatbabies posted an image macro to /r/dankmemes[4] criticizing Reddit's video player using a GIF of Hank laughing, gaining over 100,000 upvotes in a month (shown below).
