Haitchface is a Bait and Switch meme in wrestling fandom in which a user hyperlinks to a bizarre expression of WWE wrestler Triple H.
Origin
The nickname "Haitch" comes from English wrestler William Regal's mispronunciation of the letter H ("aitch") as "haitch." Regal's deliberate mispronunciations had formed something of a minor meme and in-joke in wrestling in the late 2000s.
The image for "Haitchface" is derived from a 2003 WWE photoshoot.[1]
Spread
According to Google Trends, search interest for the meme began around November 2014.[2] The image sees use in particular on wrestling fan boards like Reddit's r/squaredcircle, where it is used as a Bait and Switch Picture commonly hidden behind an innocuous hyperlink in comments. [3][4] Redditor u/thegrassyknoll is credited with the origin via a comment on r/squaredcircle.[5]
Occasionally, alternative Triple H reaction faces have been used, but they still tend to follow the theme of him exerting some kind of effort during a workout.[6]
