Guile’s Theme Goes With Everything is a series of YouTube Poop remix videos that pair up any choice of footage with the theme song for Guile^[1], a video game character from the Capcom fighting arcade series Street Fighter.^[4] Similar to Yakety Sax and …While I Play Unfitting Music, Guile's theme has the ability to utilize soundtrack dissonance^[15], a trope that illustrates the conflict between the tone of a background audio track and the video being played simultaneously.

Origin

Guile's first appearance in the series was in Street Fighter II, released in 1991. That game had several different composers, including Yoko Shimomura, Isao Abe, and Yoshihiro Sakaguchi. While other musicians have made their own versions of Guile's Theme, most instances are typically set to the original version of the song from the Hyper Street Fighter II soundtrack.

On Dec 19, 2007 YouTuber MassEffect360 posted a mashup video titled "The Real Street Fighter" wherein Guile's Theme was used in a controversial way. On April 24th, 2010 YouTuber guilethemefitsall^[2] posted the first Guile Theme mashup with the title "Guile Theme goes with Everything" to go viral, a mashup containing a scene from the 1993 movie Super Mario Bros.^[3], in which Mario falls into another dimension while Guile's Theme plays in the background.

The video obtained over 40,000 views in the first 3 months after being uploaded. The Guile Theme Fits All channel on YouTube has over 2.6 million views since its creation in April 2010, racking up roughly 4000 views a day.

On May 7th, 2010, a user on the ScoreHero^[5] gaming forums posted a link to Guile's Theme goes with the Lion King^[6], stating it "really does go with everything." Later that month, GamesRadar^[7] published an article calling the video the next Keyboard Cat. Immediately following this post, Destructoid^[8] wrote a similar article the YouTube channel.

The next month, on June 11th, Redditor 4erlik^[9] posted one of the videos to the Gaming subreddit^[10], where it received 671 points. After this thread, Guile's Theme videos were shared on Buzzfeed^[11] and eBaum's World.^[12] It was first defined on Urban Dictionary^[13] on July 29th, 2011. A Facebook^[14] fan page for the song has 7000 likes.

Despite the popularity of the Street Fighter franchise, "Guile's Theme" is not a generally sought after term. The term showed small peaks in interest during February and September of 2009, but searches for Guile's Theme are currently growing higher than ever before beginning in May of 2010, continuing into June. In 2011 searches have jumped to a new height and the first quarter of 2012 shows Guile Theme searches have stayed strong since.
