Grungler or The Grungler is a slang term most often used to describe a pleasant bisexual man, possibly autistic, who everyone likes and who has been welcomed into a Discord group of transgender and alt girls, who play video games together. The term is based on an X / Twitter post made by user @bonkey_bong on December 6th, 2022, which describes this type of man, claiming he calls his video game characters "Grungler." The post garnered viral spread over the following years, inspiring memes about being the Grungler, some using the catchphrase, "Guys check it out, I'm the Grungler."

On December 6th, 2022, X^[1] user @bonkey_bong posted an image of a wall of text that reads, "women will go on a 1st date with a guy and things will be going well until the guy casually mentions he's bi and she'll go home and start posting stuff like 'we need to normalize being straight' and 'whatever happened to beauty' meanwhile the guy went home to play video games with a bunch of weird discord transsexuals and he named his character 'the grungler' and he keeps saying stuff like 'check it out guys, i'm the grungler,'" garnering an unknown number of interactions before the tweet was made private.

Spread

The post garnered viral spread over the following months, inspiring memes about grunglers. On May 11th, 2023, Redditor u/brokensilence32 posted a Wojak meme to the /r/196^[2] subreddit referencing the post, garnering over 6,800 upvotes in two years.

On May 12th, a now-deleted Redditor posted a How Hungry meme to the /r/196^[3] subreddit referencing the post, garnering over 2,000 upvotes in the same span of time.

On August 31st, 2023, now-deleted Tumblr^[4] user puppygirl-hornyposting reposted the original meme, garnering over 60,000 notes in two years.

On March 6th, 2024, a now-deleted Redditor posted a screenshot of a text post from a now-deleted Tumblr user to the /r/CuratedTumblr^[5] subreddit indirectly describing a type of person who sounds very similar to a grungler, the Redditor titling the post, "This type of guy is called a 'Grungler' by the way," garnering over 3,200 upvotes in a year.

On January 20th, 2025, Tumblr^[6] user chappydev posted, "is this how grunglers work," as a reblog of a post by Tumblr user thinkspam that garnered over 178,000 notes in five months.
