Origin

On October 20th, 1955, the third-part of the epic fantasy book series The Lord of the Rings, entitled Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, was released.

In The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, the Orc army bring a battering ram to break down the gates of Minas Tirith, the capital city of Gondor. The battering ram, called Grond, is shaped like a wolf's head with a fiery mouth.

On December 17th, 2003, New Line Cinema released the film adaptation of the The Return of the King. The film features the battering ram most commonly used in memes on the subject.
