About
The Grinder Salad or Grinder Salad Sandwich is a recipe that became notable on TikTok in early 2022, comprised of a salad similar to coleslaw with a thick bread roll. The recipe includes ingredients like lettuce, mayo, onions, protein, cheese, salad dressing, etc. The trend surrounding the food in April and May 2022 led many online to recreate it or post recipes for others to create their own.
Origin
On March 28th, 2022, TikToker[1] ohheyimgray posted a video that showed her boyfriend making a grinder sandwich for her. A grinder is an Italian-style sandwich, served on a large hoagie that most often includes prosciutto or salami and cheese. Ohheyimgray's sandwich included turkey as well as focaccia bread. Additionally, ohheyimgray emphasized the importance of the "grinder salad," which was made separately but put into the sandwich later on. This salad consisted of mayo, garlic, red wine vinegar, oregano, pepperoncini, pepper, onions, red pepper and lettuce (similar to coleslaw). Over the course of one month, the viral video received roughly 688,000 plays and 84,900 likes (shown below).
