About

The Green Green Grass TikTok Dance refers to a dance challenge that's visually similar to getting sturdy and uses the song "Green Green Grass" by George Ezra (specifically a "Green Green Grass" sped-up remix). The TikTok trend started in late 2022, continuing into January 2023. In most of the "Green Green Grass" TikTok videos, text is centered above each person present, listing their birth year and relationship to one another (mom, dad, brother, sister, daughter, etc.). Additionally, the song became associated with controversial, U.K. TikToker Paul Breach who was one of the first large TikTokers to use the song frequently. Many online call "Green Green Grass" the "Paul Breach song."

Origin

On April 22nd, 2022, the YouTube[1] account of George Ezra posted the official lyrics video for "Green Green Grass," earning roughly 8.8 million views and 62,000 likes in nine months (shown below). On June 20th, 2022, the TikToker[2] luhvrlyrics posted a sped-up remix of the song, gaining roughly 3.8 million plays and 265,700 likes in seven months.

"Green Green Grass" and Paul Breach

Prior to TikToker[2] luhvrlyrics' video of the sped-up remix, controversial TikToker Paul Breach had been using George Ezra's "Green Green Grass" for many of his TikToks which have since been deleted along with Breach's second account beautybeyondthe_eye. As evidence of his notorious usage of the song, in the comment section of TikToker[2] luhvrlyrics' own video, they left a comment reading, "no more paul. we’re trying to enjoy the song not turn it into trauma😍," earning roughly 2,000 likes in seven months (shown below).

On December 29th, 2022, TikToker[3] neymarjuniorwife posted a video that allegedly showed Paul Breach's first-ever video that used "Green Green Grass." The claim is unconfirmed but is nonetheless evidence is of his prior usage. Over the course of three weeks, the TikTok received roughly 1.7 million plays and 155,100 likes (shown below).

Green Green Grass TikTok Dance

In late 2022, the "Green Green Grass" TikTok sounds became less associated with Paul Breach as a dance trend emerged visually similar to getting sturdy. Currently, the first known video of the dance was uploaded on December 15th, 2022, by TikToker[4] 1az.zsgh, earning roughly 2.2 million plays and 252,000 likes in one month (shown below).

Spread

TikTokers began replicating the dance trend in late December 2022, such as TikToker[5] czarnakiciakicia on December 20th, 2022, who earned roughly 1.1 million plays and 38,500 likes in one month (shown below, left). Soon after, TikTokers added another element to the trend of displaying their birth year and relationship to one another (mom, dad, brother, sister, daughter, etc.) overtop each person with text overlay. The earliest known addition of the new element was uploaded on December 24th, 2022, by TikToker[6] hannahmria, earning roughly 12.8 million plays and 1.3 million likes in three weeks (shown below, right).
