Grand Theft Auto Logic, often abbreviated as GTA Logic, is an image macro series used to mock a vast range of plot holes, glitches and other odd mechanics that are present in the Grand Theft Auto action-adventure video games.

Origin

The GTA Logic series can be seen as a prime subset of the Video Game Logic meme, which encompasses a broader range of errors and glitches spotted in video games. The earliest known use of the phrase “GTA Logic” can be found in the title of a post submitted to the Internet humor site FunnyJunk[7] by user teenspirit on January 24th, 2011. The content of the post has since been deleted.

On February 23rd, 2012, 9gag[1] user JTXtreme submitted a rage comic titled “Grand Theft Auto logic,” which mocked the lack of reasoning behind police officers' sensitivity to traffic accidents in the games, while failing to respond to far more serious criminal activities (shown below).

On July 6th, a Facebook[4] page titled “GTA Logic” was launched, which gathered more than 6,100 likes in the following two years. On July 26th, Redditor TDDNote posted another image macro making fun of the game's faulty law enforcement mechanism (shown below, left) to the /r/AdviceAnimals[5] subreddit, gathering over 2,500 up votes and 20 comments prior to its archival. On August 18th, Redditor CrazySumo submitted a post titled “GTA dating logic” featuring a screenshot of the player's character and a female companion out on a date in a vehicle covered with blood in Grand Theft Auto IV (shown below, right). Prior to being archived, the post garnered more than of 15,800 up votes and 370 comments.

On July 16th, 2013, Redditor natonio95 submitted a post titled "Grand Theft Auto logic" to the /r/gaming[2] subreddit, featuring an image macro about computer drivers in Grand Theft Auto IV (shown below, left). In the next two months, the post accumulated upwards of 600 up votes and 25 comments. On May 13th, the Cheezburger site Memebase[3] highlighted an image macro titled "The Amazing Grand Theft Auto Logic," which joked about the behavior of computer-controlled law enforcement in the series (shown below, right).

On September 15th, YouTuber WhiteBoy7thst uploaded a video titled "Grand Theft Auto 5 Logic," which featured skits of GTA gameplay elements being applied in real life (shown below). In the first 72 hours, the video gained over 120,000 views and 1,700 comments.
