Graham Potter Face Swap refers to a series of photoshop and AI edits of English former West Ham United F.C. (West Ham) football manager Graham Potter with his face-swapped onto different photos. The trend started on Twitter / X in August 2025, when Potter was still at the head of West Ham and his team lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. (Wolves) in the English Premier League Cup (EPL Cup). Fans on X began adding his face to popular images of celebrities or characters from memes. The trend continued in the following weeks, notably resurfacing when Potter was fired from West Ham in late September 2025.
Origin
On August 26th, 2025, West Ham lost to the Wolves in the EPL Cup, knocking them out of the competition. The Sun[1] reported that West Ham manager Graham Potter was under "immense pressure" after the loss.
On August 26th, X[2] user @MoyesB0y tweeted, "Losing the b-side of a team that came 16th last season," concerning the match loss. The tweet attached a face swap of Graham Potter on the body of George Floyd. Over two months, the tweet received over 5,000 likes. The tweet is currently the first known Graham Potter Face Swap meme.

On September 24th, 2025, TikToker [12] @lifeoftobes shared a video discussing the Graham Potter Face Swap memes, gaining over 14,400 likes in three weeks.
On September 27th, Graham Potter was fired from his position as manager of West Ham and was replaced with Nuno Espírito Santo, according to the Guardian.[6] The news sparked a new slew of Graham Potter Face Swaps on social media.
For instance, on September 27th, 2025, X[9] user @WestHam_Central quote-tweeted a post that announced Potter's firing, attaching a face-swapped version of the Utter Woke Nonsense meme, showing Potter's face on manager Sean Dyche's body. Over 17 days, the post gained over 3,000 likes.
On October 2nd, X[10] user @TheLawless quote-tweeted a man's selfie because he believed that the man looked like a Graham Potter Face Swap. He wrote, "I am so confused, no way this is not a Graham Potter face swap, how is no one in the replies is acknowledging it????" The post received roughly 16,000 likes in 12 days.
