Gotta Make a Move to a Town That’s Right for Me, also known as Gotta Make a Move to a Town That’s Right for Me 🎹🎹🎹 refers to an acapella version of "Funkytown" by Lipps, Inc. sung by TikToker @violadagoomba in which an organ interrupts him by playing the melody. The viral video became a TikTok sound used for nonsensical memes, edits and shitposts in June 2024.

Origin

On May 25th, 2024, TikToker[1] @violadagoomba posted a video in which he's seen singing "Funkytown" by Lipps, Inc. in a choir room with an organ. He sings the lyrics, "Gotta make a move to a town that's right for me," and then an organ player off-camera plays the song's melody. The TikToker continues the verse, "Town to keep me movin', keep me groovin' with some energy." Over 17 days, the video received roughly 10.6 million plays and 1.1 million likes (shown below, left).

On May 27th, TikToker[2] @violadagoomba posted the Spinning Chip video with the sound of his "Funkytown" singing, turning it into a TikTok sound.[4]

Going into June 2024, users on the app started using the TikTok sound[3] en masse. For instance, on June 1st, 2024, TikToker[4] @jile194 posted a shitpost compilation with the audio, gaining over 8.3 million plays and 1.4 million likes in 10 days (shown below, left).

Also on June 1st, TikToker[5] @shtpost_forrealv2 posted a similar shitpost video, receiving over 5.9 million plays and 1.2 million likes in 10 days (shown below, right).

Multiple TikToks[6][7] using the audio were posted on June 1st, 2024. It's currently unknown which video was posted first.

By June 11th, 2024, the trend's primary TikTok sound[3] had amassed over 16,200 posts.
