Gossip Girl Title Remixes, also known as Go Piss Girl, refers to a two-paneled image macro in which American teen drama television series Gossip Girl character Serena van der Woodsen says something and Blair Waldorf responds in a remixed version of the Gossip Girl title. The captioned images began circulating on Twitter in April 2020.

Origin

On April 10th, 2020, Tyler Wood posted the first title remix to the Useless, Unsuccessful, and/or Unpopular Memes Facebook^[2] group and received over 4,500 reactions in six days (shown below).

Spread

On April 13th, 2020, Many Twitter users began posting their own edits. Twitter user @koostzu^[4] posted the format with the conversation, "Peppa who?" "Peppa Pig Girl" (shown below, left). The tweet received over 830 likes and 118 retweets in a day. That same day, Twitter user @Depresseddbicth^[3] posted a variation with the conversation, "I have to fart" "Go rip girl" (shown below, right).

On April 13th, Twitter user @aashnaaaugh^[5] posted a group of Gossip Girl Title Remix memes with the caption, "I think about these gossip girl memes 15 times a day at least" (shown below). The tweet accumulated over 16,800 likes and 4,200 retweets in a day. StayyHipp^[1] published an article on Gossip Girl Title Memes.

Blake Lively Instagram Post

On April 16th, 2020, Gossip Girl-star Blake Lively posted a variation of the meme on her Instagram Stories (shown below).^[6] The meme features Lively's character Serena van der Woodsen asking, "What should I wear to the supermarket?" Waldorf responds, "Gloves girl."

2022 Resurgence

In early September 2022, a series of Gossip Girl Title Remix memes were posted on Twitter, commenting on controversies and meme events happening at that time as a resurgence around the original trend grew. For example, after the gossip and chaos surrounding the Venice Film Festival Premiere of the film Don't Worry Darling, some found a new application for the format. On September 6th, comedian @nicolewboyce posted a meme about Chris Pine being spat on (seen below, left), receiving over 157,000 likes in a week.^[7] That same day, the media outlet Vulture posted a meme depicting Harry Styles confessing to the spitting, receiving over 21,000 likes (seen below, right).^[8]

The meme was also used to comment on the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Twitter^[9] user @whysangel made a post of the meme commemorating the monarch on September 8th, 2022, accumulating just over 89,000 likes in four days (shown below).

Many online had previously posted expressing affection for the meme, indicating the deep mark it left on the pop cultural consciousness of its time. For example, Twitter^[10] user @onplan3tn3ptun3 posted on October 8th, 2021 (about six months after the meme's peak vitality) that they still thought about it quite often, earning over 50 likes and 10 retweets in the course of a year (seen below).
