About
Gorilla In A Fucking Coupe refers to the lyrics from Chief Keef's 2014 song "Faneto," which read "I'm a gorilla in a fuckin' coupe, finna pull up to the zoo," meaning he's strong like a gorilla and rich enough to drive a coupe. Following the song's release, the lyrics inspired memes and shitposts posturing about being a gorilla in a coupe, coupling the lyrics with images of Koko the gorilla sitting in a white car and other images of gorillas.
Origin
On March 12th, 2010, Koko.org's[1][2] Gary Stanley posted a number of images of Koko the gorilla taken between 2001 and 2003 showing her sitting in the driver's seat of a car looking out the window and getting into the car (shown below, left and right).
On October 2nd, 2014, rapper Chief Keef released the song "Faneto," including the lyrics: "I'm a gorilla in a fuckin' coupe, finna pull up to the zoo," meant to posture, calling himself tough like a gorilla and rich due to the car (shown below). The video features gorilla imagery, including Chief Keef turning into a gorilla at one point.
Around 2015, people began combining the images of Koko with the lyrics from the song in shitposts. One of the earliest examples was posted to Twitter[3] by @fakeshoredrive on August 3rd, 2015, gaining over 1,500 retweets in six years (shown below).
