About
Good News Everyone! is a catchphrase said by the character Professor Farnsworth from the 1999 animated TV show Futurama, typically used when he enters a room. The catchphrase became prevalent in various memes as far back as 2010 in formats such as Demotivational Posters, image macros or as a reaction image and GIF, as well as commonly used in Read This In My Voice setups. While sometimes used genuinely for announcing or reacting to good news, it is also used sarcastically or ironically.
Origin
The catchphrase is first said by Professor Farnsworth in episode seven of season one, titled "My Three Suns." In the episode, which aired on May 4th, 1999, the Professor says the iconic line before sending the group off on their big adventure, which quickly becomes a recurring thing. As a catchphrase associated with the popular show and character, references to Futurama were plenty in early online memes as they started to form in the late 2000s, with Professor Farnsworth having many one-liners referenced in memes, including this phrase. One of the first instances of the meme recorded was on 4chan on June 2nd, 2010, in which a thread was made utilizing the Read This In My Voice joke format (shown below).
Spread
The meme quickly spread throughout the internet in the following years, being a regular reference that someone would make when talking about the show or anything good in particular, as well as sarcastic uses with negative things. The meme creation site MemeGenerator[1] first featured a template for the meme on August 8th, 2011, where it has generated over 16,000 posts in 11 years (example shown below).
The format continued to see use in many different forms throughout the 2010s and beyond. For example, on May 19th, 2019, Imgur user Kingrablo[2] made an album featuring a Slaps Roof of Car meme that references the catchphrase, receiving over 101,000 views and 2,200 upvotes in roughly three years (shown below).
