"Gooba" Challenge Dance refers to short dance videos originating on TikTok in May 2020 to Tekashi 6ix9ine's song "Gooba."[2] The fast dance, involving twerking and jumping, was first created in May by TikTokers deiabazile and abspauldssss became popular in June with TikTokers like Charli D'Amelio performing the dance.
Origin
On May 12th, 2020, TikTokers deliabazile and abspauldssss uploaded a video of themselves doing a dance they created to the sound clip "GOOBA – 6ix9ine" (shown below). The video gained over 1.1 million likes in a month.
Spread
On June 10th, 2020, TikToker charlidamelio performed the dance and garnered over 12.7 million likes in 16 days (shown below, left). The next day, TikToker addisonre uploaded a video of herself doing te dance and received over 14.2 million likes in 15 days (shown below, center). On June 14th, TikToker larrayeeee uploaded a dance video with James Charles and accumulated over 2.2 million likes in 12 days (shown below, right). StayHipp[1] published an article on the dance trend.
