Go Crazy Go Stupid refers to a clip posted by comedian PresidentofUgly in which he yells to the camera "go crazy," shakes his head, and then yells "go stupid." Popular source material for edits in late 2018 and early 2019, the video regained popularity in 2020 in Go Crazy Go X snowclones.

Origin

Prior to May 29th, 2015, comedian PresidentofUgly[1] posted a humorous clip in which he sat in his car, shouting "go crazy, go stupid" and shaking his head. The original post is no longer available. The earliest discovered repost of the video was uploaded by Twitter[2] user @1runako on May 29th, 2015 (shown below).


Spread

The video was reposted numerous times over the next four years. On March 23rd, 2017, YouTube[3] channel FULL HD 1080p MEMES reuploaded a Spongebob Squarepants parody by @illegal_dank_memes.jpg to YouTube. The video gained over 19,700 views in two years (shown below, left). On May 18th, 2017, YouTube[4] user Daniel reuploaded an edited parody of the original. The video accumulated over 102,400 views in two years (shown below, right).

On September 4th, 2018, YouTube[5] user That one Glitchyeasteregg reuploaded a void parody (shown below, left). The video garnered 115,700 views in six months. On September 11th, 2018, YouTube[6] user Dat Boiii reuploaded a Travis Scott 'Astroworld' parody (shown below, right). The video gained 22,270 views in six months.

The video gained significant popularity as source material for humorous edits in early 2019. On January 23rd and 28th, 2019, PresidentofUgly reposted[7][8] edits created by Instagram users unexpected.exe and dopeass.bitch, with the reuploads gaining over 155,800 and 114,600 views in one year (shown below, left and right).

Pacify Revival

On February 22nd, 2019, YouTuber[9] CoryxKenshin uploaded a video featuring the game Pacify. During the playthrough, a baby doll runs past in the dark, with the audio of "go crazy go stupid" edited in by the YouTuber for comedic effect (shown below). The video gained 1.5 million views and 134,000 likes in two weeks.

On the same day, Twitter[10] user @dalveeen posted a fragment of CoryxKenshin's video in which the YouTuber edited in a soundbite from Go Crazy Go Stupid Vine for comedic effect. The tweet accumulated over 38,700 retweets and 100,000 likes in three weeks, with the video gaining over 1.5 million views on Twitter.


On February 24th, musician LilNasX tweeted the fragment,[11] captioning the video "the demons in my basement when they hear me playing lil uzi upstairs". The tweet gained over 45,900 retweets and 145,000 likes in three weeks.


In the following days, users on Twitter, YouTuber and TikTok continued to parody both the baby doll video and the original. On March 10th, 2019 @mayihavecoochie used the Pacify video with more babies in reaction to "NYC criminals when the avengers were away fighting Thanos" (shown below). The tweet garnered 1,700 retweets and 5,200 likes in two days.


Go Crazy, Go X

In 2020, the video regained popularity in the form of the "Go Crazy, Go X" snowclone, usually in the form of surreal or ironic four-panel memes (examples shown below).
