About
Go Cinderella or the Paris Filter refers to a TikTok trend where users apply Instagram's Paris filter numerous times to a selfie video of them posing while the song "Fancy" by Drake plays, the filter applied to the point where the video is obscured and washed out in pink and purple. The videos are often captioned "no filter," a joke about people who post obviously edited photos online under the guise of being natural. The trend became popularized on TikTok in March 2022.
Origin
On March 19th, 2022, TikToker[1][2][3] @.pooterbae posted a lip-dub video from his car lip dubbing to a slowed-down section of "Fancy" by Drake,[4] singing, "Go Cinderella, go Cinderella, orgasm blush, lipstick and concealer." The video (shown below, left) is edited to look pink and purple using Instagram's "Paris" filter, which some commenters pointed out. The same day, @.pooterbae posted a second video lip dubbing to the song, applying the filter even more times to the point where his facial features are nearly unrecognizable, gaining over 423,000 views in four days (shown below, right). One of the top comments reads, "how many times u used paris."
The next day, @.pooterbae posted a video response to the comment, showing his camera roll and the evolution of the video after using the Paris filter so many times, gaining over 726,000 views in three days (shown below).
How To Use Instagram's Paris Filter
Instagram's Paris filter is pre-installed into Instagram and applied through the Story tab. After taking a photo or video through the Instagram Story camera, swipe left on the screen to apply "Paris." The "Go Cinderella" effect is achieved by applying Paris to the same video or photo multiple times.
Spread
The video inspired other TikTokers to overly apply the Paris filter to their own videos and upload them using the same sound, often with captions like "no filter," joking about social media users who upload obviously edited photos and videos under the guise of them being all-natural. For example, on March 19th, 2022, TikToker[5] @guapz__ posted a video using the Paris filter over the song, gaining over 600,000 views in four days (shown below).
On March 20th, TikToker[6] @mmadii0_ posted a similar video, gaining over 1.1 million views in three days (shown below, left). That day, TIkToker[7] @blackafricanwhitegirl posted a parody video using a filter that replaces her face with a cartoon head, gaining over 475,000 views in the same span of time (shown below, right).
On March 21st, TikToker[8] @realityrat2 posted videos of their dogs following the trend, gaining over 158,000 views in two days (shown below, left). On March 22nd, TikToker[9] @.luvvaniyah posted a video using the Paris filter and a filter that changes your face to a monkey's captioned with misheard lyrics from the song reading "ghost in da rella," gaining over 548,000 views in a day (shown below, right).
On March 23rd, actress Skai Jackson posted a video to TikTok[10] following the trend, gaining over 1.1 million views in under 24 hours (shown below).
