GMod Boom refers to an original sound on TikTok based on a viral video of a Garry's Mod player attacking a nuke until it explodes, resulting in a ringing sound. The video was posted in February 2022 and went viral as an original sound over the following months, often in a trend where users show off drunk photos of themselves over the ringing sound.

Origin

On February 28th, 2022, TikToker^[1] @skunkplaysvr posted a video of themselves attacking a nuke while playing Garry's Mod, first hitting it with a crowbar then shooting it with a shotgun, resulting in the nuke exploding, the screen going white as a ringing sound plays (shown below). The video gained over 6.8 million views in two months.

Spread

The original sound went viral over the following months, inspiring over 73,000 videos by April 2022. On March 10th, TikToker^[3] @___world_of_wonders__ posted an original animation recreating the video, gaining over 5.3 million views in two months (shown below, left). On March 15th, TikToker^[4] @josbruh_original posted an IRL recreation of the video, gaining over 6.3 million views in a similar span of time (shown below, right).

Many of the videos show photos or videos of people before getting drunk with a caption insinuating they're about to push themselves past their limit, followed by another photo or video of the same person, drunk, as the ringing sound goes off. For example, on March 29th, 2022, TikToker^[2] @poopjuulfart posted a video writing, "I don't feel anything I'm gonna take another shot" followed by a cut to a photo of her standing on her head, gaining over 2.9 million views in three weeks (shown below, left). On April 13th, the official MLB TikTok^[6] account posted a video using the sound, gaining over 1.8 million views in five days (shown below, right). On April 18th, YouTuber^[5] cute tiktok uploaded a compilation of the trend.
