Glizzy Ninja or Glizzard Wizard refers to a viral clip of a person performing a spinning hand trick with a sausage. The video received viral spread online, gaining popularity in edits on Twitter, Instagram and iFunny.
Origin
On July 21st, 2020, TikTok[1] user domo.ps posted a video of himself spinning a sausage in his left hand as a part of the Glizzy trend on the platform, writing "i am the glizzy ninja." The video (shown below) received over 2.8 million views and 568,300 likes in one week, becoming the most viewed video with the #glizzy hashtag.
Spread
On July 21st, 2020, multiple Twitter users reposted the video. For example, a repost by Twitter[2] user @PlayoffDre (shown below) captioned "NOT THE GLIZZARD WIZARD" received over 5.5 million views, 68,100 retweets and 257,200 likes in one week (shown below). Another repost by Twitter[3] user @0wasco captioned "this boy the glizzy gladiator" received over 5.1 million views, 3,400 retweets and 14,600 likes.
In the following, the clip gained popularity as source material for memes on Twitter, Reddit, iFunny and other online platforms. For example, on July 22nd, iFunny[4] user DiagnosedCancerPatient posted a meme that received over 4,900 smiles in one week (shown below, left). On the same day, Instagram[5] user pgodcomedy posted a meme that received over 51,600 views (shown below, right).
The clip maintained significant popularity online in the following week with multiple edits being posted.
