Giving My Pet Body Dysmorphia, also known as "Giving X Body Dysmorphia" refers to a phrasal template where people post a picture of their pet watching a piece of media that correlates to the animal's anthropomorphized form and say that they are giving their pet body dysmorphia. The format began with a meme about a horse watching My Little Pony.

Origin

On December 23rd, 2021, an unknown Instagram user reposted an image from the Instagram page @rogue.titty,^[1] showing a horse watching My Little Pony. The story was accompanied by a text overlay that read, "giving my horse body dysmorphia." The post was reshared to iFunny by user MikaelaDownwardSpiral on December 27th (seen below).^[2]

Also on December 27th, Twitter user @angelgirl4ever0 posted a screenshot of her Instagram story archives as proof that she made the original Instagram story repost that started the meme trend.^[3]

On January 4th, Twitter^[4] user @harpyeda posted a picture of their dog watching Paw Patrol. The tweet gathered over 30 likes in ten months (seen below, left). On January 22nd, 2022, Twitter^[5] user @climaxximus posted a tweet alongside a caption that read, "giving my rabbit body dysmorphia." The tweet contained a photo of a rabbit watching Lola Bunny from Space Jam. The tweet gathered over 120,000 likes in nearly ten months (seen below, right).

On January 23rd, Twitter^[6] user @redputationaotd posted a tweet with the caption, "giving my cat body dysmorphia" and a picture of their cat watching Cats, the 2019 live-action musical. The tweet gathered over 30,000 likes in nearly ten months (seen below, left). On November 8th, Twitter^[7] user @RlCKYRAGE posted a tweet with a picture of a hedgehog watching Sonic, with a caption that read, "giving him body dysmorphia." The tweet gathered over 80,000 likes in three days (seen below, right).
