About

Give Pikachu A Face is an exploitable template with which users can take and create unique faces for the Pokémon Pikachu. The template of Pikachu's head is most popular but some edits have also used full-body images of Pikachu.

Origin

On June 6th, 2004, DeviantArt [1] Bioviral posted a drawing of Pikachu to their page (shown below).

In 2008, a 4chan anon posted the image to /b/, where users began using the image as an exploitable and adding faces to Pikachu. Though the link to the original thread appears dead,[7] KnowYourMeme user Dragod claims to have originally posted the picture.

Spread

Over the following years, the "Give Pikachu A Face" game spread to other forums. On April 25th, 2009, Something Awful[2] user Melted Clocks launched a thread for the game. On June 28th, the thread was added to the Something Awful "Comedy Goldmine"[3] (example posts shown below). Around this time, a thread was also posted to the GameStop[4] forums.

Threads based on the game have appeared multiple times in the decade since the game started on 4chan. On October 15th, 2014, a thread for the game was posted in the OnePlus[6] forums. On November 5th, 2017, a collection of "Give Pikachu a Face" images appeared on the Facebook page Listables.[5]
