"Girls Like You" is a pop rock song originally released by the band Maroon 5 in 2017, which received a second version featuring a verse by Cardi B the following year.
Origin
On November 3rd, 2017, the first version of "Girls Like You" was released on Maroon 5's sixth studio album Red Pill Blues. On May 30th, 2018, the official music video for the second version of the song featuring rapper Cardi B was released, which received more than 1.77 million views and 486,000 comments over the next nine months (shown below).
Spread
On July 10th, 2018, the "Walk off the Earth": YouTube channel uploaded a cover of the song, gathering over 8.8 million views and 9,700 comments within seven months. On July 27th, the Without Music YouTube channel uploaded a version of the "Girls Like You" with the instrumental track edited out of the background audio (shown below, right). Within the same timeframe, the video garnered more than 8.04 million views and 17,400 comments.
On September 24th, the song reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.[1] On October 8th, YouTuber Alex o uploaded a video of a father and daughter lip-dubbing the song while looking in a bathroom mirror (shown below, left). On October 19th, YouTuber Danny Padilla uploaded a MadLibs parody of the song, which garnered upwards of one million views and 1,800 comments over the next four months (shown below).
