Girl You Know You Don't Relate To Evangelion or Evangelion Hits Way Too Close to Home is a viral video in which a woman stitches a clip of a woman captioned, "Evangelion hits a little too close to home," cutting to an image of a woman with pink hair standing in front of a car as she says, "Girl you know you don't relate to Evangelion, girl shut the hell up. Seriously, shut up." The video was posted online purportedly by TikToker @Ariesdyke as early as April 2022 and went viral over the following years, inspiring redraws and recreations of the original.

Origin

In April 2022, TikToker^[1] @ariesdyke purportedly posted a video stitching another creator's video captioned, "Evangelion hits way too close to home," in which she cuts to an image of someone with pink hair standing in front of a car as she says, "Girl you know you don't relate to Evangelion, girl shut the hell up. Seriously, shut up." The original upload has since been deleted. The earliest known reupload of the original video was posted by YouTuber^[2] Clay Bee on May 13th, 2022, garnering over 1,500 views in two years.

Prior to this, an edit of the original video was posted by TikToker^[3] @zarinea123 on April 14th, 2022, garnering over 20,000 views in a similar span of time.

Spread

The video was reposted to YouTube^[4][5] at least two more times in 2022, continuing to gain viral spread over the following years. On January 8th, 2023, it was reposted by X^[6] user @themetallicmoon, garnering over 450 likes in a year. On April 2nd, X^[7] user @hatsunemcfly reposted it, writing, "she needs to come back," garnering over 3,500 likes in a year.

On February 10th, 2024, TikToker^[8] @rezenation reposted the video with an additional caption, writing, "Me when the reposts don't match their personality," garnering over 2.1 million views in six months.

The video became an increasingly prominent subject of memes over the following months, including videos in which the video is redrawn with other characters.

For example, on February 25th, 2024, TikToker^[9] @flexmarss posted a version of the video reanimated with Omori characters that garnered over 600,000 views in six months.

On July 16th, X^[10] user @jo333ny reposted the original video, garnering over 48,000 likes in a month. On August 26th, TikToker^[11] @crxnched posted a video including the original in a list of "TikTok incidents," garnering over 500,000 views in a day.
