The phrase became popularized in August 2023 after comedian Caitlin Reilly uploaded a video with the overlay text "Girl Who Is 'Going To Be Okay,'" which was later used as a reaction image meme on X / Twitter by users expressing their emotions regarding overcoming simple tasks or events.

On August 3rd, 2023, American comedian Caitlin Reilly[1] uploaded a comedy skit video titled "Girl Who Is 'Going To Be Okay'" in which she recreates the way women are often portrayed in TV shows or movies after they go through a traumatic event and are finally ready to move on and "be okay." The video (shown below) amassed over 2.5 million views and 160,000 likes in seven months.

Reilly's video and catchphrase were popularized on X as a reaction image in the following months. For example, on November 9th, 2023, X[2] user @ntoinedoinel used a still image of the "Girl Who Is 'Going To Be Okay'" video (shown below, left) to express their excitement for securing tickets to Beyoncé's Renaissance film. The post amassed roughly 10 likes in five months.
On February 14th, 2024, X[3] user @tinacantdrive posted the same image paired with the caption "decided I'm streaming positions (standard edition) today," which amassed more than 20 likes in a month.
On February 28th, 2024, TikTok[4] user @yviain then posted a parody video of "the girl who's 'going to be okay'" (shown below, left), which amassed over 6 million plays and 1.3 million likes in two days. On February 29th, TikTok[5] user @juliaernstt1 posted a similar skit (shown below, right), which garnered more than 1.8 million plays and 193,000 likes in a day.
