About

Girl Where You Going, also known as Girl Where Ya Goin' refers to a lyric and catchphrase coined by New Orleans-based rap group Fresh X Reckless, who first went viral for the meme "Assemble." The due released their song "Captain Save Uh Ho (Girl Where You Going)" in December 2022 and began promoting the track by posing leaning over to their side with their hands clasped and making videos where they say the phrase "Girl where you going, mwah" in various scenarios and languages. Other TikTokers began to copy the absurd video format from late December 2022 into January 2023.

Origin

Fresh X Reckless is a New Orleans-based rap group that first went viral for a video of them performing in a Target. The band originally comprised Travon “T-Daddie” Mitchell, David “Deelo” Rayford, Jamel "Junyah” Joseph, and Terron “TEE” Champagne, of which Deelo and Junyah remain in 2022. In 2022, the band was reduced to two members from their initial four, and they released the song "Captain Save Uh Ho (Girl Where You Going)" to their YouTube channel on July 12th, 2022.[3]

The first video promoting the song to go viral was posted on December 7th to Deelo's personal TikTok @deelodoitall2.[1] The video showed the two remaining members of the band singing the chorus to their track, with Junya delivering a particularly off-key performance. The video gathered over 2 million plays and 200,000 likes in three weeks (seen below, left). On December 22nd, Deelo responded to a comment asking if they were the new Island Boys by saying that they were not nearly as talented.[2] The video gathered over 900,000 plays and 98,000 likes in a week (seen below, right).
