About

The Giant Door In Oregon Conspiracy Theory refers to a conspiracy theory that was started by Oregon-based TikToker James Goble (@rbdcell) who alleged that he witnessed a giant peeking out of a mountain near Quartzville Drive by the Green Peter Reservoir. According to Goble, the creature then closed the mountain like a secret, giant door. The former Oregon city councilman's videos sparked viral interest in the giant door, causing many to visit the site, document it and investigate it. Many tried to debunk Goble's claim or prove its authenticity in November 2023. Many compared the story to Andrew Dawson's Giant On Mountain Sighting which happened on TikTok in late 2022.

Origin

Sometime on or before November 1st, 2023, TikToker[1] @rbdcell posted a video that he later deleted in which he was standing on a rural, Oregon road pointing up at a rock face behind him that he claimed to have seen open up. @rbdcell claimed that he saw a giant peeking out of a slot in the mountain door. He further stated, "Giants are freaking real."

Although @rbdcell deleted his original video, it was quickly reposted by TikToker[2] @whiteside4real on November 1st, 2023 (shown below).

Soon after TikToker[1] @rbdcell posted his original, since-deleted video, he posted follow-up videos that are currently still accessible on his profile, such as a TikTok[3] he posted on November 4th, 2023, in which he hiked up to the rock face to investigate it, gaining roughly 616,300 plays and 18,000 likes in four weeks (shown below).

Spread

As his videos on the alleged giant door went viral, many on TikTok and YouTube started to post content about the theory. For instance, on November 6th, 2023, TIkToker[3] @strangeology posted a long-form video about the topic, gaining roughly 1.3 million plays and 36,500 likes in three weeks (shown below, left).

On November 7th, 2023, TikToker[4] @amberbowdenvance posted a similar video that received roughly 1.8 million plays and 126,100 likes in three weeks (shown below, right). In her video, @amberbowdenvance stated that there could be a second door visible in his video.

On November 9th, 2023, TikToker[5][6] @rbdcell posted videos in which he tried to debunk @amberbowdenvance's theory about a second door (example shown below, left).

During the same timeframe, others on TikTok started to visit the site in Oregon and post their documentation. For instance, on November 20th, 2023, TikToker[7] @shelbyjohnsontheflock posted a video that received roughly 3.1 million plays and 121,600 likes in 10 days (shown below, right).

In late November 2023, many realized that @rbdcell stopped posting content about the alleged giant door causing many to worry about him. On November 11th, 2023, he posted a TikTok[8] in which he explained his absence, gaining roughly 4 million plays and 175,400 likes in 19 days (shown below).

During the same timeframe, news outlets started to cover the story, such as the Daily Mail UK[9] which covered @rbdcell's identity and past. According to the publication, @rbdcell's real name is James Goble and he's a former Sweet Home, Oregon, council member.
