Get Ugly Coming Out refers to a TikTok trend in which one TikToker comes out to another person by lip singing Jason Derulo's 2015 song "Get Ugly." The trend, which began in November 2019, specifically uses the lyrics "Oh my oh my oh my god. This girl's straight and this girl's not."

Origin

On November 25th, 2019, TikToker @carleyyyanne used @AmyHawardOfficial's^[3] November 7th sound clip of the Jason Derulo song to come out to her sister (shown below). The video garnered over 3.6 million likes in five months.

Spread

On December 7th, 2019, TikToker @wot.dennis came out to her friend by using the trend (shown below, left). The video accumulated over 1.2 million likes in four months. On January 7th, 2020, TikToker @tyshonlawrence came out to his mother using the trend and she responded that she already knew which gained over 2.8 million likes in three months (shown below, center). On January 26, TikToker @iyla_lopez attempted to come out using the challenge but her mother didn't catch it in the video which received over 1.6 million likes in three months (shown below right). In April 2020, The Daily Dot^[2] and Popbuzz^[1] published articles on the trend.
