Origin

On February 7th, 1999, the Simpsons episode "Homer to the Max" aired in the United States.[1] In the episode, a group of Homer Simpson's coworkers watch him as he works. The leader of the group Lenny (voiced by Harry Shearer) says, "Get ready, everybody. He’s about to do something stupid."

On January 9th, 2013, YouTuber Berserk879 shared the scene and received more than 38,000 views as of February 2020.

On March 11th, 2014, Redditor [2] Skittles_87 posted an image macro of the scene in the thread "The girl who tweeted about 'Barraco Barner' now has over 8000 followers." The post received more than 2,000 (92% upvoted) and 295 comments in less than six years (shown below, left).

Over the next decade, a series of image edit variations of the scene began appearing online. On June 19th, 2016, for example, a version by @antibrancatelli appeared on Taringa[3] (shown below, center).

This trend continued throughout the next few years. On October 6th, 2019, the Twitter [4] @iresimpsonsfans posted a version criticizing United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The post received more than 890 likes and 140 retweets in less than six months (shown below, right).
