Get Me A Blue Powerade Bro, also known as Get Me X Bro, is an exploitable image macro and catchphrase that uses a photo of a baby orangutan in the hospital with the text "get me a blue powerade bro." The image was first posted with the accompanying catchphrase on iFunny in June 2021, inspired by a TikTok video of a monkey drinking blue Powerade posted in December 2020. The meme received more attention and became an exploitable in September 2021 across iFunny and Instagram where it was used as a phrasal template by swapping "Powerade" for other objects.

Origin

Baby Orangutan Photograph Origin

The original photograph of the baby orangutan in the hospital with a ventilator in its nose comes from an Italian wildlife refugee program, which uploaded the image to their blog^[1] in March 2010. The image (shown below) was used in other memes on Reddit^[2] before its integration into the "Get Me A Blue Powerade Bro" exploitable.

Monkey Drinking Blue Powerade TikTok

On December 21st, 2020, TikToker^[3] @landonscherr uploaded a video of him pouring blue Powerade into his chimp's mouth. The TikTok (shown below, left) received roughly 11.4 million views and 576,000 likes over the course of nine months. TikToker^[4] @landonscherr uploaded another video of himself pouring blue Powerade into his chimp's mouth on May 7th, 2021. This second TikTok (shown below, right) received roughly 92.8 million views and 11.4 million likes over the course of four months.

Get Me A Blue Powerade Bro Origin

On June 14th, 2021, iFunnier^[5] @EatFresh05 posted the original meme to their page with both the monkey and catchphrase. The meme (shown below) received 33 smiles over the course of four months.

Spread

The meme spread to Facebook on June 15th, 2021, reposted by Facebook^[6] user Potskin Jacob, who received 23 reactions over the course of four months. The image also spread to Twitter^[7] on June 15th, 2021, being reposted by user @RealMarkyBangz.

On September 6th, 2021, iFunnier^[8] @Nanu reposted the image to their page and it was featured the same day. @Nanu's repost of the image received roughly 12,000 smiles over 10 days.

After the new attention received on iFunny, Instagrammers began remixing the image. For instance, on September 15th, 2021, Instagram^[9] account @thisbitchknowshorses42 posted a meme (shown below) using the template, replacing "Blue Powerade" with "single slice of pizza." The post received roughly 1,000 likes over the course of one day. Other Instagram accounts joined the trend the same day, like @humi1iat3mydick420^[10] and @cgi_paul_walker,^[11] who each posted their own versions of the template to their Instagram stories.
