"Get Jinxed" is the song released by the video games company Riot Games in order to promote the character Jinx from the MOBA game League of Legends. The song and the music video inspired various parodies and tributes, along with the use of the song title as catchphrase associated to the character.
Origin
On October 8th, 2013, the official League of Legends channel on YouTube released the song "Get Jinxed" as promotion for their new champion Jinx, a manic and impulsive criminal armed with a minigun and various other weapons;[3] featuring the vocals of Agnete Kjølsrud, from the Norwegian band Djerv. In less than two years, the video received over 43 million views and 90,000 comments.
Spread
On November 25th, 2013, YouRuber Kathy Lopez uploaded a video titled "Get Jinxed! [Junko Enoshima AMV]", featuring an anime music video with scenes of the visual novel Dangan Ronpa with the sound as background, gathering over 538,000 views in less than two years. On December 3rd, 2014, youtuber Herostrain uploaded a video titled "Pinked (SFM)", featuring a Source Filmmaker animation staring the My Little Pony character Pinkie Pie in her pinkamena form, gaining over one million views in less than a year.
Along with the music video and song parodies, the title of the song, "Get Jinxed", was adopted as catchphrase by the League of Legend fandom to refer to getting defeated on the game by the character Jinx, being heavily associated to her. It use can be found on some websites like 4chan,[4] Tumblr[2] or deviantART, where its search leads to over 8,800 results as September 5th, 2015.[1]
