George Santos Cameos

George Santos Cameos refers to various Cameo videos created by former Congressman George Santos after he was expelled from Congress in December 2023. The videos were widely reposted on TikTok and other social media platforms shortly after where they went viral and saw significant spread. Several Cameos became political news stories as well with people purchasing George Santos' Cameos for sitting politicians (such as Senator John Fetterman using one to troll fellow Senator Robert "Bob" Menendez).

Origin

On December 1st, 2023, George Santos was expelled from Congress after an ethics investigation found he had spent campaign contributions on luxury items. On the following Monday, December 4th, videos from Santos' new Cameo account^[3] began spreading on social media.

One of the first viral examples came from Nebraska State Senator Megan Hunt,^[1] who posted her Cameo from Santos cheering her on, gaining over 400 retweets and 4,000 likes in three days (shown below).

Spread

Later on December 4th, 2023, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman trolled beleaguered New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, who is also subject to myriad scandals,^[4] with a Cameo from Santos.^[2] The post gained over 4,900 retweets and 21,000 likes in three days (shown below) and also received widespread news coverage.^[5]

Meanwhile, several users on TikTok began purchasing and reposting Santos Cameos. For example, on December 6th, user @fake.housewife posted a Cameo from Santos that gained over 1.1 million views in one day (shown below, left). On December 5th, the account @georgiescameos, which is devoted to reposting Santos Cameos, posted one that gained over 162,000 views in two days (shown below, right).

On December 6th, 2023, the Cameo TikTok account posted a compilation of Cameos Santos had sent so far, gaining over 1.1 million views in one day (shown below).
