George Cooper's Death refers to memes and reactions to the death of Young Sheldon character George Cooper, the father of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory. George Sr.'s death was highly anticipated by fans of the show, as it was mentioned in the original series back in September 2010. The character's death was revealed in May 2024 during the seventh season of Young Sheldon, which sparked a series of reactions and debates from fans of the show, who expressed sadness and anguish online, including some ironic memes on TikTok from people who only watched the show in TikTok video edits.
Origin
On May 9th, 2024, the spinoff Young Sheldon[1] series premiered episode 12 of its seventh season, titled "A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture." In the episode, Sheldon's father George dies of a heart attack while at work coaching for Medford High School.
On May 10th, TikTok[2] user @itsmejeannny posted a clip showing the other characters' reactions to Cooper's death (shown below), which amassed more than 5 million plays and 87,000 likes in five days.

Following the episode's release, Young Sheldon fans expressed their sadness about George's death, like X[3] user @hotasicexox's tweet on May 10th, 2024, in which they added a GIF of the character captioning it, "Even though we were warned… damn, that hurt. To the best dad in Texas. We love you, George Cooper!" The post (shown below) amassed more than 66,000 views and 1,200 likes in four days.

On May 12th, 2024, TikTok[4] user @jackladuk posted a video of his reaction to the character's death, captioning it, "Mr President? Sheldon's dad from that show you have only ever watched clips off on TikTok is dead." The post (seen below, left) received over 816,000 plays and 202,000 likes in three days.
On May 13th, TikTok[5] user @monkyinc posted an ironic meme video of someone reacting to George's death (seen below, right), which amassed roughly 789,000 plays and 146,000 likes in two days.
