About

Generously Buttered Noodles refers to a copypasta inspired by a New York Times recipe for parsleyed noodles. Though the dish is simple, the New York Times wrote, "These generously buttered noodles, sprinkled with just a quarter cup of parsley for color and freshness, are the perfect blank canvas for practically any stew or braise." A few comments on the recipe turning the phrase into a copypasta caught the attention of Twitter user @ArielDumas, who brought the copypasta to a wide Twitter audience, leading to jokes about the sentence.

Origin

On December 13th, 2017, the New York Times cooking section published a recipe for parsleyed noodles.[1] In his description of the dish, author Craig Claiborne wrote, "These generously buttered noodles, sprinkled with just a quarter cup of parsley for color and freshness, are the perfect blank canvas for practically any stew or braise."

Shortly after the recipe was posted, a user named "Anne" appeared to joke about the description by reposting it verbatim in the comments section (shown below).

Spread

On January 18th, 2019, Twitter user @ArielDumas[2] posted screenshots of the recipe and ensuing comments section, gaining over 6,700 retweets and 44,000 likes (shown below).

She then posted references to the copypasta with several popular meme formats, including Mocking Spongebob and Distracted Boyfriend -boyfriend (shown below).

Dumas' tweets inspired others to contribute to the meme. HBO replied to Dumas with a Tell Cersei. I Want Her to Know It Was Me joke, gaining over 340 retweets and 4,000 likes (shown below, left). User @WillStottTweets posted a Drakeposting edit that gained over 70 retweets and 1,700 likes (shown below, right). The jokes were covered by The Daily Dot.[3]
