Gap Gap Wap Wap is the misheard opening lyric of the 2024 song "Wham Wham" by Yallfavgirlky. The song achieved viral popularity on TikTok in late October 2024 as it was combined with an animation of The Reaper Fortnite outfit, commonly referred to as John Wick, performing the Trip Out dance, with the resulting format being used for various caption memes.

Origin

On May 3rd, 2024, TikTok[1] user posted a 3D animation of The Reaper Fortnite outfit doing the "trip out" style of dance, with the video pretending that a new emote was added to the game. The video (shown below) garnered over 2 million views and 289,000 likes in six months.

On July 19th, 2024, artist Yallfavgirlky released her song "Wham Wham" on YouTube[2] (shown below), where it accumulated over 50,000 views in four months.

The opening line of the song has frequently been misheard as "gap gap wop wop", with the misheard line being used to refer to the song.

On October 2nd, 2024, TikTok[3] user @ykdezal posted a meme combining the song with the animation, captioning the video, "mfs will really set they phone on a urinal and start hitting ts in school knowing they got a 0.9 GPA and 16 missing assignments". The post (shown below) received over 854,000 views and 148,000 likes in one month.

On October 15th, 2024, TikTok[4] user threat81 posted the animation combined with the song without any caption. The post garnered over 444,200 views and 48,000 likes in three weeks.

On October 18th, 2024, TikTok[5] user @dan_mut1 captioned the video, "How twin feels after going 006 on the game and readying up like nothing happened". The post (shown below) gained over 1.4 million views and 248,000 likes in three weeks.

Later on October 18th, 2024, TikTok[6] user @redpatcheddemon posted another meme based on the format that received over 2.1 million views and 455,000 likes in three weeks (shown below).

The song has also been used separately from the animated video, with several videos using it going viral on TikTok. As of November 5th, 2024, over 31,000 videos based on the song were uploaded to the platform.[7]

On October 22nd, 2024, TikTok[8] user @geekbobbbbb posted a video in which they shared a link[9] to a green screen template for the animation. In late October and early November 2024, the dancing animation saw viral spread in memes online as users posted caption memes based on it. For example, on October 25th, TikTok[9] user @greenmoney59 captioned the animation, "me in the bathroom at 2 am", with the video (shown below) gaining over 2.1 million views and 367,000 likes in two weeks.
