The Gambino Animation Meme is an animation meme on YouTube set to the song "Sweatpants" by rapper Childish Gambino. The first animation meme set to the song was posted by YouTuber Kawfi in 2017 but has since been deleted. The song became increasingly popular in animation memes over the following years, often showing one character in a dominating position over another.

Origin

Sometime in 2017, YouTuber Kawfi posted an animation meme set to the song "Sweatpants" by Childish Gambino, however, it has been deleted.^[1] The earliest known popular example of the meme was posted to YouTube^[2] by Lopalu on December 23rd, 2017, who credits Kawfi in the description as the original, garnering over 730,000 views in six years (shown below).

Spread

The trend became notably popular in mid-2018. On January 2nd, 2018, YouTuber^[3] assound posted a version of the meme that garnered over 660,000 views in five years (shown below, left). On August 25th, YouTuber^[6] At Lojart posted a version of the meme that gained over 6.5 million views in the same rough span of time (shown below, right).

On October 2nd, YouTuber^[4] Starbeam posted a version featuring Princess Peach and Bowsette, garnering over 2.7 million views in the same rough span of time (shown below).

On March 3rd, 2019, YouTuber^[5] Typh posted a version of the meme that garnered over 913,000 views in four years (shown below).
