About
Fun Is Infinite is a secret message found in the video game Sonic CD, which was originally released for Sega's Mega CD (Sega CD) add-on for the Sega Megadrive (Sega Genesis). The message is used as a form of creepypasta and has been referenced in several edits and redraws throughout the years.
Origin
In Sonic CD, released in Japan on September 23rd, 1993,[1] the "Fun Is Infinite" message was rumored to be used as an anti-piracy message for those who acquired an illegal copy of the game.[2] However, the message can be accessed by using a cheat code. To view the message, first go into the game's sound test by pressing "Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, A" at the "Press Start" screen, then set "FM" to 46, "PCM" to 12, and "DA" to 25.[3] The screen will fade and show the following screen in Japanese (shown below).
The message roughly translates in English to the following:
Fun is Infinite
Majin
With Sega Enterprises
In the North American version of the game, however, a different soundtrack is used for the scene (shown below), which gives the message a creepier feel compared to the Japanese release.
The creepy music from the North American version, combined with the mistranslation of the text to "Madzin," which means "devil" in Japanese, led to the formation of the creepypasta.
Spread
The Majin Sonic character would later be an inspiration for the Sonic.exe Nightmare series character "Creep."[4] His first appearance is in Sonic.exe: Nightmare Beginning, which was released on January 26th, 2017.[5] In the scene (shown below), Exetior attempts to take over Sonic's body but is stopped by Creep who is currently guarding Sonic's mind. Creep informs Exetior of a way to weaken Sonic's will so he has a better chance at taking over Sonic's mind.
Majin Sonic would also appear in the Friday Night Funkin' mod "Friday Night Funkin’: Vs. Sonic.Exe," which was first released on August 22nd, 2021.[6] After unlocking the sound test you can access his stage "Endless" by setting "PCM" to 12 and "DA" to 25.
The character later became the subject of fan art in the community, often depicting Majin Sonic as less demonic and more playful. For example, on January 24th, 2020, Twitter user @possqueen[7] posted art of the character, gaining over 3,500 retweets and 17,000 likes in two years (shown below).
