About
Fujoshing TF Out, also known as Fujo Out or Fujoshing TF Out, is a slang phrase used to joke about women who are obsessed with or who find enjoyment in seeing two men be romantically involved. The term "fujoshi" comes from Japanese slang and is used to describe women who read yaoi, also known as shōnen-ai (boy love) fiction. While originally seen as a pejorative, the term has since been adopted by fans themselves in a similar vein to the terms "otaku" and "weeaboo." Ironic and sincere jokes about women "fujoshing out" began to gain notable traction online after 2023.
Origin
The term fujoshi (腐女子) emerged in Japan around the early 2000s, coined on the messageboard 2ch to mock female fans of male-male romance media (yaoi) by making a pun on the words on 婦女子 ("respectable woman") and 腐女子 ("rotten woman"). Though originally derogatory, it has since been reclaimed by many yaoi fans as a self-descriptive identity.[1]
The phrase "fujoing out" or "fujoshing tf out" is one that combines the Japanese word "fujoshi" with the active English verb tense. It is typically used to joke about a person engaging in being a "fujoshi" as an activity.
One of the earliest known notable uses of the phrase is an October 13th, 2023, tweet by X[2] / Twitter user @1918friends that reads, "meredith grey fujoing out." The tweet was posted alongside a video of the character from Grey's Anatomy staring at two men passionately kissing, gathering over 24,000 likes in two years.
