Fugu Fish or Don't Pee On The Floor, Use The Commodore is a viral video of an ugly-looking yellow fish in a tank singing a song that states, "Don't pee on the floor, use the commodore." It first went viral as a TikTok sound in early 2022, though the video originally comes from the 2001 video game Stupid Invaders.
Origin
On December 15th, 2000, the video game Stupid Invaders was released by Ubisoft for the European market.[1] A month later, it was additionally released in North America. The game was based on a French animated cartoon called Space Goofs, which premiered in 1997.[2] Stupid Invaders involved aliens and their attempts to return to space, labeled under the umbrella of adventure games.
During one point in the game, the player is able to interact with a fishbowl in a lab. Once clicked on, a small cut scene takes place involving the pufferfish in the fishbowl singing a song with the lyrics, "Don't pee on the floor, use the commodore." The fish was voiced by Charlie Adler,[3] a notable voice actor who'd additionally voiced characters within Ben 10, Cow and Chicken, AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, among other, classic Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon cartoons of the 90s ad 2000s.
On October 1st, 2013, the YouTube channel eygrett uploaded the singing pufferfish, earning roughly 27,600 views over the course of nine years (shown below).
Spread
In early 2022, the video resurfaced online due to a post made by Redditor me-does-a-thing on March 26th within the /r/cursedvideos[4] subreddit. The post was titled, "cursed_pufferfish," and earned roughly 1,700 upvotes over the course of thirteen days.
On March 29th, 2022, TikToker[5] aspiring90skid reposted the video, claiming that his friends found it on /r/cursedvideos. The TikTok earned roughly 61,700 plays and 11,300 likes over the course of ten days (shown below).
On April 4th, 2022, TikToker[6] tankymany cropped and reposted the video, asking their followers if anyone knew the source, earning roughly 4.7 million plays and 1.3 million likes in four days (shown below, left). Additionally, on April 4th, TikToker[7] certified.shit.content reposted the video, claiming it was from Five Nights at Freddy's, earning roughly 6,100 plays in four days (shown below, right). This idea that the fish came from FNAF stemmed from aspiring90skid's TikTok which used hashtags like #fnaf and #biteof87 in its caption.
On April 5th, Twitter [10] user NickelsSpider reposted the video, spreading its virality to the new platform. They captioned it, "why is this fish so fucking ugly," and earned roughly 121,600 views and 18,500 likes in three days.
The video became notable on TikTok as more and more users were exposed to the singing pufferfish on their For You pages. For instance, on April 7th, 2022, the TikTok[8] account dontpeeonthefloorr posted a CapCut style edit of the pufferfish, earning roughly 1.3 million plays and 400,900 likes in one day (shown below, left). Also on April 7th, TikToker[9] omg_brooke acknowledged the oversaturation of "Don't Pee On The Floor" videos on her For You page, recreating the pufferfish singing with herself doing the same by crawling on the floor, earning roughly 2.1 million plays and 662,200 likes in one day (shown below, right).
